"Art is not the creation of the eyes, the hands, or the brain. It is the creation of the heart with which we pull our most inner feelings from, and then put them on canvas. This is the only way I can explain why I create. Yes, I paint because I am inspired by nature, people, shapes and colors, but it is the feeling I get from it that I want to create. Putting my heart into all of my paintings is literal too. My birthday is on Valentine’s day and I have a special connection to hearts. When I complete a painting and feel content that it was done with my heart, I hide a heart somewhere in the painting."
My name is Valentina Yannotti but most people know me as Tina. My passion for art began the day I picked up a crayon. I wanted to draw everything I saw and draw it perfectly. Art classes were the highlight of my high school education in Geneva, New York. After high school, I worked for a utility company, but I yearned to draw and paint. I took night classes at a local Community College and then workshops and painting classes with local professional artists. One of the classes I took was a Plein air class (Plein Air is a French term for “In the open air). It was at this class, that I realized, that Plein air painting was what I wanted to do. Studio painting is necessary but not the same as painting from life. When I am painting from life, I am also enjoying the view, fresh air and the splendor of nature. I decided about 15 years ago that I would retire early so I could pursue painting full time. I started my own Paint and Sip business which was a great artistic outlet and allowed me financially to retire. I have since sold the Paint and Sip business and am enjoying being a full-time artist.
